Singapore ,As I see it- III

Among the crowds I hear unknown faces speaking in Chinese, Malay, Tamil, Hindi ,English and many more dialects I cannot understand. This is Singapore .

Kind hearted people. Walk around the streets and girls wont hear any cat calls, or any punter whistling and staring at you till you wish you go invisible to the world. People live their own peaceful lives. Chances are you have been living in Singapore for years and you wont know your neighbours! Such is the privacy. Sometimes it can be a boon believe me! Away from all the gossip mongers and unwanted people barging into your house at odd hours. ( Can be a pain when you are newly married . Personally I believe a couple should spend as much time together as possible. ) Atleast the locals dont poke their noses into others businesses and I look up to them for that. Sometimes your own colleagues might not acknowledge you with a smile or a simple hi. Weird at some level, but then again these are not the people who would bitch about you behind your back. Indifferent they are, but cunning and backstabbing they are not .

Singaporeans are Pet lovers. And in particular DOGS. Hairy ones, adorable ones, hairless ones, small ones, you name it . Different breeds taking a walk, with their masters picking up their poo wherever they poop :) Oh yes, theres fine levied on not picking up the poop too;)

Sometimes they make me believe they prefer dogs to kids. They groom their doggies by taking them to doggie parlours , dress them up in cute little shoes and clothes .
A doggie in my Condo :)

Singaporeans marry late or never.. Late because they earn enough to buy a house , which is not easy considering the real estate prices shooting up by the day or shall I say by the hour.. Most of them remain unmarried. No arranged marriages. They wait for that 'right one'. And sometimes the right one never comes along ( ? or so they feel...? ) . Thinking and worrying about their futures they miss out on their present..Worrying about the old age and wasting away the best years of your life..By the time they realise (and most of them never do realise ) ,the golden years have passed them by.All the money in the bank cannot bring back the lost time. I always discuss this with a colleague of mine.. Saving , a very good and responsible concept. Its good to always earn enough and struggle till you reach some strata in your life and career. But why overdo it and not marry to keep your career growing.? All the money rotting in the bank, when you have noone to spend the rest of your life with ? Just you, the dog and the money... hmmm . 'Kiasu 'people - Thats another word I hear all the time. It means fear of losing. They can be paranoid about losing their materialistic belongings This mystifying place certainly makes the wheels in your head turn .

Recently I had an interesting conversation with a friend about how efficient the Transport system is in Singapore. Any kind of disruption is handled by the concerned authorities in the blink of an eye.The train breaks down half way ( happens rarely), before you know it services resume as if nothing ever went wrong! Citizens are well taken care of by the government( some might disagree on this, but lets go deep into it sometime later). This conversation on twitter started my thinking juices to flow..

Singapore is an ideal place to live. UTOPIA. If they had to rename Singapore this would be more appropriate...

  1. Oh I forgot to mention 1 thing. To own a dog you need to have a licence too...!And they are implanted with microchip for identification purposes. Comes handy when your dog is lost( in Singapore? haha ya right!) or in case of a rabies outbreak to trace originated from which doggie.Rabies Control !
